Reputable breeders strive to breed true to breed type dogs. In doing so, they spend countless hours
researching pedigrees for health problems, spend hundreds/thousands on health testing and then
the expense of acquiring the AKC championship title. That alone is extremely costly. When a reputable
breeder breeds a litter of puppies they are doing it because they have done all the hard work of
putting things together and they want another puppy to show. They are not breeding them because
they need to try and re-coup some of their money...LOL....a 'Good' breeder never makes money on the
puppies.
When you decide your wanting to take the plunge into the "Show" world, you will find it difficult to find
a breeder willing to give up a show puppy to a novice. Beginners need to "Pay their dues" so to
speak. Most Reputable breeders will not sell a show puppy outright, most all show puppies are sold
on a Co-Ownership. this is done to ensure the puppy will be shown and finished and that it will be
bred to a quality dog and not some pet quality from a puppymill or backyard breeder. This often
irritates new people as they feel if they are having to "pay" for the dog, then they should have the
right to do what they want with it.......Which is exactly "why" a good breeder wont sell a show puppy to
a beginner.
Here are the requirements for a show quality puppy from me.
1. NO puppy will be sold 'Outright' to anyone that has not proven themselves in the AKC show ring
2. A Co-Ownership Contract will be signed and Notarized prior to pick up.
3. You will be required to pay a Co-Ownership fee
4. You will be required to pay all show entry fees, any and all expenses for showing the puppy.
5. If you cant show the puppy/dog yourself, I will show the puppy/dog at your expense,
NO EXCEPTIONS.
6. If the puppy/dog is not being entered and shown by you, it will be returned to me where you will
sign off of AKC reg. paper's and you will loose any and all monies you have paid and or spent.
7. Dog will not be bred until it reaches the age of 2 years, (24 months) and all health testing has been
done at YOUR expense.
8. Dog will not be bred to any dog unless I approve
9. Dog can not be sold, traded or given to anyone but me.
10. If the puppy turns out to be not of show quality, such as having a disqualifying fault, it will be
returned to me where I will replace it with another puppy as soon as one becomes available. If puppy
ends up with a genetic problem such as LCP, (Leggs Calves Perthes), or Slipping Patella's, X-rays will
be done to see if it is Genetic or Injury caused as both of these problems can happen from an injury. If
it proves to be genetic, the puppy will be returned to me and I will replace it with another as soon as
one is available. If it proves to be injury caused, it will be spayed/neutered and you just bought
yourself a pet.
